Your water heater is constantly at work. Whether you use hot water or not, it keeps the water at a constant temperature to have it ready for use. We all use hot water in many different ways. We use it to wash our dishes, take showers and to wash our hands. If you were to lose access to hot water all of a sudden, your life would be turned upside down. This is why it is good to make sure that your water heater keeps running.

There are some maintenance jobs that you should do on your water heater, whether you do them yourself or you hire someone to do it.

Over time, there will be a buildup of sediment in your water heater tank. This will need to be removed periodically, or it could cause an issue. There should be a drain valve at the bottom of your tank, so if you open that up and drain it into a bucket, it should let the sediment out as well.

Your water heater also has a pressure relief valve that is essential for proper operation. If you lift up the lever of this valve and release it, it should immediately snap back into place. If this doesn’t happen, the valve probably needs to be replaced.
