Dryer fires have very quickly become one of the leading causes of fires in the home. While this is an obviously serious issue, it is one that we can help prevent and protect our families.
Below is a brief maintenance list of items to regularly check and clean to help prevent fires in the dryer area.
- Be sure to clean and check the lint trap regularly, preferably after every use.
- Check the inside of the dryer for lint as well. The lint trap won’t catch it all, so it is a good place to look.
- Check and clean the dryer hose and vent head. Clogs a lint in these areas can be a real issue
- Clear the area around the dryer. A cluttered laundry area can encourage a fire as well.
- If you have a gas dryer, be sure to check the gas connections for leaks, wear, and damage.
