One fear that most people have in common is the fact of getting surprised by a snake in their own backyard. Some may not even know if it’s poisonous or not, which makes discretion even more important in a heavily snake populated area. So what are some things you can do to protect yourself and your family from these sneaky backyard invaders?

Well, the first thing you can do is keep your backyard and front yard nicely trimmed. Snakes absolutely love the tall grass, both for the cover and for the shelter. Taking away the tall grass and keeping it trimmed will give snakes a reason to look for another hiding spot. Also, keeping track of snakes natural food source will help to cut down on their population as well. For instance, if there are a large number of chipmunks or mice, then there will be a greater number of snakes. If you cut down on the population, then the snakes will go in search of food.

A third thing you can do is spray around the sides of your house, your porch’s, and the actual sides of your house with a specific snake repellent to ward off snakes around your house. Another thing you can try, is if you live in the city, is to spread gravel all around the sides of your house, it will look both beautiful and will function as a deterrent for snakes. Snakes will not travel across the gravel, because it pokes into their skin, just a walking barefoot on gravel would be uncomfortable for us as humans.

With this advice in mind, may you have no further fear of being surprised by a snake in your own backyard, and continue to live in safety around your own home.
